adidas Files Trademark Lawsuit Over Nike’s SNKRS, Adapt Tech

adidas and Nike continue their legal battle as the Three Stripes filed a trademark infringement lawsuit over Nike’s SNKRS and Adapt footwear tech.

According to the lawsuit, adidas claims that nine of its patents were infringed upon. The brand claims that Nike’s tech is similar to adidas’ CONFIRMED app and its adidas_1 sneaker, the smart footwear that was released in the early 2000s. Additionally, the CONFIRMED app was launched in February 2015 and Nike’s SNKRS app was released in May 2015.

“adidas has long been a leader in mobile technology, including technology related to mobile fitness and mobile purchases,” the lawsuit states. “adidas was the first in the industry to comprehensively bring data analytics to athletes.”

The brand is seeking “damages in an amount sufficient to compensate Adidas for the defendant’s infringement,” as well as a permanent injunction against Nike that would prevent the company from further infringing on its patents, according to Complex.
