The Air Jordan 1 is getting a dazzling new gradient, but it isn’t merely color for color’s sake.
Paying homage to one of Michael Jordan’s earliest iconic photos, the AJ1 “Skyline” borrows its treatment from the background of the image that bore the Jumpman logo. The photoshoot was done to promote the Air Jordan 1 and saw Michael in his flight suit soaring towards the hoop with the Chicago skyline in the background. But it wasn’t until the Air Jordan 3 that Nike began using the Jumpman mark.
Months after the leaks began, we finally have official photos of the Air Jordan 1 “Skyline.” Canvas overlays go from a pinkish-orange to blue and sit atop a white leather base. Branding and laces all appear in black, as does the collar and midsole. Rounding out the specs is a cream midsole that gives the sneaker a slightly aged look.
The Air Jordan 1 “Skyline” will release in Europe and Asia March 18 and North America April 8. Retail is set at a standard $180. Download the DROPS by SoleSavy app to stay abreast on any further developments for this sneaker and more.
