Chris Gibbs’ Explains The Meaning Behind The Latest Union x Jordan Collaboration

In an exclusive interview for Jordan Brand, UNION LA owner Chris Gibbs sat down to discuss the design process, inspiration, and deeper meaning behind his footwear and apparel collection with the brand. With the final drop having finished earlier today this is the perfect time to brush up on the historic collaboration’s history. Like with any great sneaker collaboration, a good bit of storytelling can go a long way. The piece touches on Gibbs’ efforts to support LA’s Black-owned businesses through the project as well as the shoe’s vintage-inspired design aesthetic. Regarding UNION’s choice of beloved silhouettes, the piece reads:

Gibbs is well aware that re-working a classic Air Jordan will always come with questions and criticism, so rather than try to capture a one-for-one design or moment, the Union x Jordan collection aims to capture a set of emotions and memories. “I love the brand, and I love the history,” says Gibbs. “I’m privileged to be able to collaborate, and for me, Jordan [Brand] represents a holistic feeling. I don’t look at it as singular moments.”
