With such a great career and a deep connection to sneakers, Fredrick had so many amazing stories to share. We appreciate his time and for allowing us to learn more about him, his interests, and his love of sneakers.

Favorite Shoe: Nike Dunk Plattenbau

Let’s start by talking about something you’re passionate about outside of sneakers. Is there one that stands out for you?

I have too many passions outside of sneakers to pick just one. I love animation, streetwear, and traveling. If you forced me to choose, I have to pick animation. I’ve worked in the industry for over 20+ years, and I still love every second of it.

Tell us more about your career as an animator.

I started animating in the year 2000. I’ve worked on countless productions ranging from feature films to video games to even a music video, Black Skinhead by Kanye West.

Do you have a favorite or standout project you’ve worked on?

The latest project I’ve completed that I am most proud of was working on LEGO Star Wars. I love LEGO, and I love Star Wars. Being able to supervise all of the animation on that holiday special was a dream come true.

Since then, I’ve moved on to a new studio called Doberman Pictures, and I am currently working on bringing back an old favorite, Megamind from Dreamworks. This is my new passion project, and I cannot wait to show it off to everyone.

Where does your love of sneakers and animation intersect?

To the shock of many, the Jordan 11 from Space Jam is NOT the sneaker that bridges these 2 passions of mine. The Nike MAG is what did it for me. I got into animation because of the incredible visual effects from films like Back to the Future.

What’s one shoe you have to add to your collection this year?

Mars Yard 2.5 – Whether I get it or not remains to be seen.

What’s your favorite part about being a SoleSavy member?

My favorite part of Solesavy is the community, and I’ve become friends with many in this group. The camaraderie I feel, especially when it comes to assisting each other on drops is pretty awesome.

Do you have a favorite sneaker you’ve gotten through your SoleSavy membership?

The best sneaker I’ve gotten through my membership is the Nike Dunk Low SB ‘Civilist’ which I traded for with another member of the community.

What’s your grail?

My grail is the Nike Dunk Plattenbau. #129 of 240. Released 2017 only in Berlin through a very special event held by Overkill. It represents a part of Berlin that is near and dear to me. I get emotional with my kicks and I could probably tell you a story about every single one of them.

The floor is yours, tell us the full Dunk story.

I lived in an area of Berlin called Friedrichshain and the style of the building I lived in was a “Plattenbau” or, as we called it, the “Platte.” So for me, the Plattenbau Dunk represents a part of my life in Germany, one I very much enjoyed living. On the sneaker, the numbers D85 represent the introductory year of the Dunk came out, and D17 is the year these were released, December 2017. These were only released in-store in Berlin at Overkill. Of the 240 made, I was able to secure number 129 through a friend of mine.

I’m going to rewind a moment here… during my time in Berlin, I made many friends, some of whom are still in the streetwear world today. One of them, Jörg Haas, is the brainchild behind BEINGHUNTED. Back before Hypebeast and Highsnobiety even existed, I would go to his site to get all the details on what was new in the streetwear world. He’s probably the sole reason I got into streetwear and sneakers. It was through other mutual friends of ours that I was able to secure my holy grail of sneakers.
