Los Angeles-based streetwear designer Tremaine Emory and his Denim Tears brand are teaming up with ASICS for a set of GEL-MC Plus colorways. To no one’s surprise, Denim Tears uses rich storytelling for its latest collaboration, much like the Denim Tears x Converse collection that was inspired by Marcus Garvey’s activism and David Hammons’ “African American Flag.”
The upcoming Denim Tears x ASICS GEL-MC Plus “Georgia Red Clay” retells Emory’s family story and their work. Through a text, Emory’s father recalls washing that red clay off of his hands and also mentions that Emory’s grandfather and uncle (both from his mother’s side) used that red clay to make fire bricks and water pipes.
The Denim Tears x ASICS GEL-MC Plus includes two monochromatic pairs that appear in reversed fashion as one pair dons a reddish-pink hue on the upper and the other in a white upper with pink undertones. A white midsole and clay red outsole appear on both pairs, bringing that Georgia red clay to life.
A release date for the Denim Tears x ASICS GEL-MC Plus “Georgia Red Clay” collection is yet to be announced. However, we expect the pair to release before the end of 2021. As always, our sneaker monitors and release day strategy will have members ready for drop day.
