Foot Locker Women’s “Behind Her Label” is Closing Streetwear’s Gender Gap

Foot Locker has teamed up with a trio of designers as Foot Locker Women’s “Behind Her Label” collection is not only pushing the envelope of design but is breaking down barriers in a male-dominated space.

The “Behind Her Label” collection features three collections; Carla Cortijo, Daughter of an Immigrant, and LIVSTREETWEAR.

Carla Cortijo

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Carla Cortijo’s love for creating fashion began with her first sewing machine at 11 years old, inspired by her grandmother, a professional seamstress. That same grandmother gave Carla her first basketball at three years old, leading Carla to become the first Puerto Rican woman to play in the WNBA.

Carla seamlessly combines fashion, sports, and design into each collection. Her craftsmanship and hard work in every venture have turned Carla into a local hero, who continuously inspires young women to thrive, dream, work and play hard.

Carla’s debut collection “Nada Es Impossible” (Nothing is Impossible) features a matching peach sweat set with basketball motifs and the inspiring Nada Es Impossible text printed across. The collection is completed with similar designs on an accompanying tee and basketball shorts.

Daughter of an Immigrant

Best friends Leslie Garcia and Karen Garcia began following their dream to design streetwear in 2017, which led to their founding of Daughter of an Immigrant.

Leslie and Karen are a testament to women to follow their career dreams — no matter their stage in life or their related experience. Daughter of an Immigrant honors Leslie and Karen’s histories through apparel designs and collaborations that celebrate immigrant families and their impact.

The eight-piece collection from DOAI, ‘Living The Dream,’ features matching sweat pants, hoodies, and graphic tees. The designs in the collection include butterflies, which represent freedom and endless opportunities. The collection also includes inspiring motifs: ‘Dream’ & ‘Living The Dream, Endless Opportunities.’
