Nearly four years ago, Virgil Abloh involved one of streetwear’s OGs by debuting the Futura x Off-White x Nike Dunk Low during his label’s Paris Fashion Week Show. And four years later, there still hadn’t been an opportunity for the public to get ahold of the three-way collaboration. That finally changes, as Sotheby’s will auction off just eight pairs of Futura’s spin on the Off-White Dunk.
“The ‘Virgil Abloh x Futura Laboratories’ Dunks were so special to Virgil, not only for their role as an anchor piece of the SS20 collection, but as a symbol of collaboration and creativity, two principles he always prioritized.” Shannon Abloh, Virgil’s widow and Virgil Abloh Foundation, said in a release. “The Dunks represent Virgil’s unique lens on art and culture, and this auction with Sotheby’s further aids in keeping his legacy alive.”
“It’s amazing to finally see the ‘Virgil Abloh x Futura Laboratories’ arriving in this fashion,” Futura added. “I hope to honor my friendship with Virgil and our creative collaborative work. Thank you SOTHEBY’s for hosting this charitable event. And most importantly, thank you SHANNON for moving this project forward. VIRGIL FOREVER!!”
The auctions for the eight pairs will open up for bidding April 5. Half of the proceeds, which should be quite sizable, will go to the Art for Justice fund, Boys & Girls Club of America, and Innocence Project.Download the DROPS by SoleSavy app to stay informed on all the hottest sneaker drops.
