Gianni Lee, an artist known for expanding his horizons through his creations, has released his first luxury shoe — The Modular One. Grounded on the principles of versatility and functionality, The Modular One is a testament to the disruptive nature of sneaker designs and their designers.
Gianni Lee drew inspiration from two of the industry’s most disruptive creators: Tinker Hatfield and Pharrell Williams. Watching Hatfield’s innovative designs and Pharrell William’s aesthetic helped Lee find his voice and vision in fashion.
Taking inspiration further from Hatfield’s archive, Gianni Lee modeled his color placements after the classic Jordan 11, creating the MOD-1 with a black upper, a hint of color, and a white sole. It was more important to incorporate easy-to-wear colors on the shoe than to frame the silhouette with his art. Although, Gianni Lee still stays true to his artistic roots by incorporating a subtle hint of his infamous skeleton motif on the sneakers removable insole, using artwork from his “I’ll Paint The Sky Red For You” acrylic painting.
The shoe has yellow/beige removable shrouds and back pockets, both made from nylon Taslan stuffed with recycled oyster shell batting. The upper consists of premium leather and accents of suede and recycled poly mesh.
“I like Modular design in my day-to-day life and wanted to incorporate this concept in my design. When creating the MOD-1, I focused on creating a timeless piece, which could easily transform to match a mood or occasion,” Gianni Lee said.
The Modular One was created in partnership with Philadelphia’s manufacturer Garrixon, aiding Gianni Lee to bring his original concept to market without compromising creativity.
