ICYMI: Women’s Recap (Nov. 7 – Nov. 13)

In case you missed it, here’s what happened this week in women’s fashion, sneakers, and sports + pop culture.

Fashion + Streetwear

Daniel Lee leaving Bottega

Daniel Lee, Creative Director of Bottega Veneta since 2018 is leaving the Italian fashion house. Kering, the company that owns the brand stated that it was a “joint decision to end their collaboration.”

“I would like to thank Daniel for his dedication to the House over the past three years,” said Leo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta. “He provided Bottega Veneta with a fresh perspective and a new sense of modernity while remaining respectful of the brand’s fifty-year heritage. The remarkable growth of the brand over the last three years bears testimony to the success of his creative work.”

Lee thanked the company for its support over the years: “My time at Bottega Veneta has been an incredible experience. I am grateful to have worked with an exceptional and talented team and I am forever thankful to everyone who was part of creating our vision. Thank you to Francois-Henri Pinault for his support, and for the opportunity to be part of Bottega Veneta’s story.”

Kering group stated that they will announce a new Creative Director soon.

Prior to Bottega Veneta, Lee previously worked for Donna Karan and Céline, where he assisted Phoebe Philo. During his time at Bottega Veneta, Lee brought new life to the ready-to-wear label best known for its distinctive intrecciato weave.

Street meets luxe

Following the highly anticipated collab, this week Supreme dropped their collaboration with Tiffany x Co. The Return to Tiffany® collection was inspired by pieces originally launched in the ‘60s featuring a Heart Tag Pendant, Oval Tag Pearl Necklace, Star Bracelet, Heart Tag Stud Earrings, Heart Knife Key Ring, Oval Tag Keyring and T-Shirt. Were you able to cop?

Taylor Rooks for OFF-WHITE x Jordan Brand

In case you didn’t catch all the SNKRS screenshots on your TL this week, the highly anticipated collab between OFF-WHITE and Jordan Brand finally dropped. This iteration of the white, varsity red, and black colorway of the Air Jordan 2 features exposed foam collars, MJ’s signature on the lateral, aged midsoles as well as Off-White branding.

This release was accompanied by a short film earlier this week starring Sports Journalist and Broadcaster Taylor Rooks, who engages in a high-speed pursuit on a motorcycle in said sneakers. The ending channels Rooks with a Michael Jordan-esque air time (a la Space Jam).

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen racing references in Jordan designs: a lot of the women’s apparel is moto-inspired, and Aleali’s short film earlier this year also incorporated motorcycles, clearly still tying into Michael Jordan’s penchant for racing.

A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 1

A Ma Maniére has officially unveiled its highly anticipated Air Jordan 1. Rooted in the resilience of the Black community through adversity, the collaborative Air Jordan 1 continues AMM’s signature storytelling as well as their undeniable commitment to quality.

The in-store raffles are open now at select locations ahead of the November 24 release. Learn more here.

Brooklyn’s Female-Owned Skateshop Celebrates Anniversary with a Nike SB Dunk High

Since 2001, Brooklyn’s Female-Owned KCDC Skateshop has focused on the idea of “Unity Meets Strength.” As the shop’s 20th anniversary approaches, the team led by Amy Ellington has brought their creativity to the Nike SB Dunk High collaboration. The details behind the inspiration of the design have not been disclosed, but images have surfaced exhibiting two tones of pink suede across the upper.

It is possible that the colorway reflects the pink brick storefront on 3rd street. Black details contrast the pink suede throughout the uppers. The tongue label features the shop’s inaugural year underneath the classic NIKE SB text. Brown tread soles and KCDC logo at heel tabs top off the silhouette.

Enjoy images of the Nike SB collaboration and stay tuned for an exclusive release at KCDC Skateshop soon.

Sports + Pop Culture

Disney Reimagines a Classic Fairytale with “Sneakerella” Film

Just when you thought sneakers couldn’t become more mainstream and embedded in pop culture, Disney’s latest announcement for its upcoming film adds to sneakers’ mass-appeal dominance.

Disney announced its latest Disney Original film with Sneakerella, a modern adaptation of Cinderella. The film, premiering in February 2022, takes the fairytale classic and places it in the heart of New York’s sneaker culture.

Bueckers for StockX

UConn’s Paige Bueckers has signed a multi-year endorsement deal with StockX. The UConn star will be the highlight of StockX’s women’s sports and basketball campaigns.

“Everybody that I sign with, I wanna make sure my values align with them and theirs align with mine,” Bueckers said in a video posted to StockX’s Twitter page. “I wanna do great stuff in the community and I wanna be able to reach people that don’t have the same opportunities that I had growing up, didn’t have the same blessings that I had.”

As a part of the deal, Bueckers is set to help design products exclusively for the DropX portal featuring limited-edition launches. The products could include third-party brands or collaborators.

We’re curious to see how this plays out, given that StockX currently contributes to the increasing difficulty of acquiring sneakers, especially for women. Will there be an effort to support women’s access to sneakers through Bueckers? Stay tuned for more on this partnership.

In the meantime, join the SoleSavy Women’s Community to learn how to cop sneakers for retail.
