ICYMI: Women’s Recap (Sept. 26 – Oct. 3)

In case you missed it, here’s what happened this week in women’s fashion, streetwear, and sneaker news.

Fashion

Welcome to the runway

Rihanna Navy assemble Who doesn’t love all things RiRi? The Bad Gal is back at it, not with another album, but with volume 3 of the highly anticipated lingerie fashion show. Savage x Fenty Show Volume 3 dropped recently exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

You already know that anything Rihanna does, she does it big, and this is no exception. If you missed her first two lingerie shows, which can also be viewed on Amazon Prime, it’s a cross between a fashion show and a concert with choreography instead of the standard catwalk. Previous shows featured performances by Travis Scott, A$AP Ferg, Big Sean, Ella Mai, and more. This edition featured Nas, Jasmine Sullivan, Normani, Bia, Daddy Yankee, and Ricky Martin.

Known for its diverse model cast, the past shows included fashion’s heavy hitters and celebrities such as Willow Smith, Slick Woods, Cara Delevigne, Bella Hadid, Demi Moore, Paris Hilton, and of course, the queen in charge. You can’t forget about the fellas; the past menswear lineup featured Big Sean, Christian Combs, and Miguel. This edition featured Adriana Lima, Aleali May, Vanessa Hudgens, Erykah Badu, Behati Prinsloo, Nyjah Huston, and more! View the latest collection from Savage x Fenty Show Volume 3 only on Amazon Prime.

Donatella Versace, Kim Jones, and Silvia Venturini Fendi teamed up to showcase a joint Fendi x Versace runway, also known as “Fendace,” at Milan Fashion Week.

Segmented by “VERSACE BY FENDI” and “FENDI BY VERSACE” parts, the runway was dubbed a “swap” rather than a collaboration as the creative directors switched their roles to design looks for one another. “VERSACE BY FENDI” drew inspiration from the mid-to-late ’90s while delving into the concept of duality by combining Fendi’s Monogram pattern with Versace’s Greek key motif. On the other side, “FENDI BY VERSACE” was influenced by punk rock with materials like chain mail used alongside lace. Fendi’s F Monogram was reimagined with crystal-encrusted details throughout.

We see it in sneakers as global labels are collaborating. Is it finally time for fashion houses to do the same?

Sports

Ballin’ like the March Madness

The NCAA is finally doing the right thing by the ladies as the NCAAW will call their tournament the same as the men’s.

“The D1 Women’s Basketball Championship will use ‘March Madness’ branding, beginning with the 2022 tournament. March Madness marketing had previously only been associated with the men’s tournament,” according to Front Office Sports.

The importance of renaming can’t be stressed enough. Though it might seem minuscule in the fight for women’s equality in sports, branding and association go a long way, especially in the most prominent collegiate tournament of the year.

The WNBA playoffs are heating up. The superstars-filled Las Vegas Aces and the Phoenix Mercury’s Big 3 are tied at one apiece, with Game 3 set to be a real duel. On the other side of the bracket, the heavily favorited Connecticut Sun and the Cinderella story Chicago Sky are also in a battle of their own. If you already aren’t, be sure to tap into the playoffs.

Doja Cat and Los Angeles-based company BH Cosmetics have announced an entire collection for the pop star.

“This collaboration is such a full-circle moment for me. I grew up doodling in school and always had an artistic eye, so naturally experimenting with makeup was a huge part of my life as a teenager,” Doja Cat said. “One of the first shadow palettes I ever purchased was from BH Cosmetics, and I’m so proud to release this collection with them.”

The collection mirrors her colorful and vibrant personality through and through. The MEGA 36 Color Shadow Palette features cool tones, nude hues, and bright shades in matte with shimmer finishes. Other standouts include the GODDESS Calligraphy Eyeliner and FLORA Blush Trio, which provide a rosy, goddess-like glow.

The collection is available now. Be on the lookout for more from Doja Cat in the beauty sphere.

Le Labo has launched an all-new fragrance that is a must. The latest fragrance collection is inspired by matcha centered around the beloved tea that transcends borders and tastebuds.

“In the same way matcha tea is much more than just a drink in Japanese culture, ‘THÉ MATCHA 26’ is much more than a scent to us,” Le Labo stated in a press release.

The scent arrives with creamy notes of fig atop a soft vetiver and cedarwood base and is completed with a bitter orange aroma.

Taking Flight

Jordan Brand tapped Billie Eilish for a tandem collaboration on the AJKO and 15 and went against the grain of silhouettes that are currently trending. Let’s dive into both silhouettes featuring sustainable materials that are 100% vegan and made from 20% recycled content by weight.

The Air Jordan 1 was the beginning of Jordan Brand, which started it all for MJ, so Billie chose the AJ1 KO. She wanted to add her twist to the design, including her logo on the tongue tag. Eilish dipped the silhouette in her signature Lime Green as an ode to her past style and looking to the future with the shoe being sustainably made, using materials better for the planet. Her Air Jordan collaboration is made with at least 20% recycled content by weight.

The Air Jordan 15 is Billie’s favorite Jordan silhouette which directly explains why she chose this silhouette. “The sneaker itself was originally inspired by the X-15 hypersonic jet plane, with a dynamic inner bootie and Zoom Air technology seamlessly blending fit, comfort, protection and style” (Jordan Brand). Its silhouette resembles a moccasin making it easy to slip on, which is vital for Billie after she sprained her ankle and needed more stable footwear.

It was essential to Billie that her collaboration was designed with sustainable materials, and this silhouette is also made with at least 20% recycled content by weight.

Billie Eilish has been making waves from music to fashion and has stayed true to herself. “Whether or not you’re a Billie Eilish fan, you have to appreciate her unapologetic approach to collaborating with the most iconic signature series of all time. And for Jordan Brand, it shouldn’t go unnoticed that they allowed her to be herself —  even when the silhouettes she chose have not been a priority for the business. To no surprise, her fearlessness fits right into the brand’s history of doing the unexpected.

Sole Savy is unreal! With a busy schedule it’s hard to keep up on shoes, and the group keeps me up to date on releases, tips on how to manually cop, and a marketplace with killer deals from fellow like minded collectors. It’s changed the sneaker game for me!

@SoleSavy is the truth. They've helped me cop kicks I never would've imagined getting at retail. Members always willing to assist on drops too. And most of all, a REAL community of REAL sneakerheads. These guys should be the gold standard for sneaker communities! #LifetimeMember

My membership paid for itself three fold by being solely responsible for my union 4’s, mesh sacai waffles, sacai blazers, court purple aj1s, glow in the dark yeezy 350s, travis scott lows (which I traded to get desert ore ow’s), air max 1 londons, bc3’s for way under retail etc.

Can't say enough about SS. The stellar help with copping shoes is a given but it's the community that makes it extra special. Hands down one of the best decisions I made as a wannabe sneakerhead.

The community of sneakerheads and resources available to help manually cop are great and really will help you get more Ws. The Zoom calls for hyped drops like Union Jordan 4 only adds to the camaraderie while providing real time instruction
