Kanye West Wants to Bring adidas and Puma Back Together

There’s a lot to unpack here. During Kanye’s latest flurry of tweets earlier today, one post, in particular, caught our attention. While simultaneously bashing Puma for having “embarrassingly trash” designs, the renowned multi-hyphenate stated his desire to bring adidas and Puma back together in some shape or form. For the uninitiated, Puma and adidas were founded after the dissolution of the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory) – a German shoe company founded by brothers Rudolf and Adolf Dassler. Rudolf would go on to found Puma in 1948 while Adolf founded his namesake company adidas in 1949.

The two brothers and companies had a bitter rivalry for decades until both founders’ deaths in the 1970s. Kanye wants to bridge this gap in the 21st century claiming: “I am the head of adidas … I will bring adidas and puma back together […] I will personally design puma and adidas and make everything ok”. There’s a silver lining to West’s trash talk after all. It’s also worth noting that in the middle of this tweet, Kanye compares his drifting relationship with rapper and mentor Jay-Z to the rivalry of the Dassler Brothers. Watch The Throne 2 in 2021? Let’s see if Mr. West does indeed do some design work Puma first.
