Mega Charizard Returns to Pokémon TCG this September

Strap in, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Perhaps the most popular Pokémon, in and out of the TCG world, Charizard always causes a frenzy.

Within the Pokémon TCG, rare cards that feature the iconic Gen 1 starter tend to always rise to the top in the secondary market. Often chased, Charizard cards feel essential to any TCG collection- wether he is your favorite Pokémon or not.

That said, it should come to no surprise that Pokémon will be releasing a new Mega Set featuring Charizard in the upcoming months. First revealed at Pokémon Worlds Anaheim, Mega Charizard X was finally confirmed to return to the world of Pokémon TCG. Furthermore, the Pokémon company shared a new art style that will accompany several other Pokémon TCG rare cards, like Mega Lucario and Mega Gardevoir in the upcoming Mega Evolutions set.

Like the original Mega Pokemon, the upcoming new cards will have the Pokemon’s attack name written over the artwork. In English they will show the Japanese names while in Japanese they will show the English names.

Though not revealed at Pokémon Worlds, Mega Charizard Y is also expected to return to the TCG. Both renditions of Charizard will headline an upcoming set. According to Poke Beach, the set will be called ” Inferno X” and will release in Japan on September 26th. The English version of the Set, named “Phantasmal Flames” is expected to launch in North America this November.
