Michael Jordan brings his penchant for entrepreneurialism and sports together once again with the announcement of his own NASCAR racing team, “23XI Racing“. The team was created together with Danny Hamlin, the three-time Daytona 500 champion. The duo has named the team “23XI” after MJ’s retired Chicago Bulls jersey number and Hamlin’s “11” car number.
They also announced that Bubba Wallace, the sole Black driver in NASCAR’s highest level, will be 23XI’s driver. With Wallace and Jordan behind the wheel, this marks the first time since 1973 that a NASCAR team is majority-owned Black-owned. While Wallace will, fittingly, don the number 23 during his tenure as Jordan and Hamlin’s driver, the announcement did not specify the car manufacturer that will represent 23XI Racing at the 2021 Daytona 500 next Spring.
