Mowalola Debuts New Balance 90/60 at Paris Fashion Week

Mowalola, Summer 2023

Nigerian-born designer Mowalola Ogunlesi has been rising in the fashion scene for years, but it was her appointment as the first design director for Yeezy Gap in 2020 that got her on the radar of sneakerheads. Now, the 27-year-old designer has moved on from Yeezy Gap and is focusing on her namesake brand, Mowalola. The brand has been spotted on everyone from Drake to Kim Kardashian despite not hosting a runway show in three years. In its return back to Paris Fashion Week, attendees got more than just a look at the “Burglarwear” collection, they also saw the debut of Mowalola’s New Balance 90/60 collaboration.

The hybrid-looking sneaker takes elements inspired by past designs like the 990 and 860 and reimagines them through a modern lens. Highlights include an extended N logo, exaggerated midsole, thicker and clear CR device, and a split at the heel. The result is a chunkier silhouette that still resembles early 2000s New Balances. Given New Balance’s current grip on both sneakerheads and fashionistas and a Joe FreshGoods co-sign of the 90/60, expect to see more of this silhouette in stores and on your favorite style influencers.

The New Balance x Mowalola 90/60 will launch in the Fall and be available in two colorways including black and purple with yellow accents as well as black and teal with pink accents.
