Many sneakerheads and industry insiders are touting the Adidas AE1 as a favorite for sneaker of the year, and we are only a quarter of the way through 2024. Now, Anthony Edwards’ debut sneaker looks to continue the momentum with a low-top version. The AE1 low was first unveiled in an ad starring Edwards, in which the top of a Saab 900 Cabrio convertible comes down to reveal the new low edition in the “Mural” colorway. Hours later, Edwards hit the hardwood in the pair in a dominating victory over the Phoenix Suns.
It’s hard to remember the last time a debut signature sneaker was this popular across so many colorway releases, and the low AE1 is sure to increase its popularity even more. From a design standpoint, the Low changes very little of the look and makes the ankle area of the shoe smaller instead of shrinking down to the TPU upper too much. There’s no word on a release date, but if Edwards continues to create moments in the AE1 in the playoffs, it’s going to be hard to beat as the best basketball sneaker of the year.
