Anthony Van Engelen and Vans Went All In On Tech For the AVE 2.0

Anthony Van Engelen and Vans just unveiled what may be the most technically advanced skate shoe from the brand to date. The AVE 2.0 is highlighted by a technical textile knit upper, bringing a new look and feel to skateboarding shoes. The sock-like upper is common in other performance shoes like running and basketball but makes its debut on a Vans skate shoe with AVE’s third signature. “20 years ago, skate shoes just gave the appearance of tech,” says AVE of his new signature model. “Now, we’re in the future, where that technical design extends to the shoe’s performance.”

Other upper design elements include RapidWeld suede vamps, bottom eye stays, toe boxes for enhanced flick plus, and an external TPU heel cage for increased lockdown. As for the sole, the AVE 2.0 uses an UltimateWaffle midsole and outsole comprising a combination of UltraCush cushioning, a TPU midfoot support, and SickStick rubber outsoles. The AVE 2.0 and its accompanying apparel collection will be released on March 28 via vans.com/skateboarding and select skate shops. A Global Gallery tour titled “Commitment to Progression” will kick off in downtown Los Angeles the same day and touch down in Shanghai and Seoul shortly thereafter—with AVE himself present at every stop.
