In classic Jordan fashion, the brand took advantage of a major pop culture moment to make some noise. During the Grammys, Travis Scott officially unveiled and shock dropped his Jumpman Jack signature sneaker. The drop sold out within seconds, but expect a larger release soon. Earlier in the weekend, Travis Scott’s longtime DJ, OG Chase B, unboxed the sneaker on his Instagram. The Cactus Jack and Jordan Brand team tapped filmmaker Rober Rodriguez to create a “Do it all” video promotion.
UPDATE JULY 13: The official Jumpman23 Instagram account hinted at an upcoming Travis Scott release. In the short clip shared today, Travis talks to Michael Jordan in a video meeting where the GOAT himself shares his approval of what he’s been working on. While Travis has teased two different sneakers over the last month, we’re yet to see a clear shot of them. Fans of Travis Scott collaborations will be happy to see designer Paul Savovici sitting next to him. Savovici played a key role in some of the most popular sneaker designs in recent history, including the Cactus Jack Air Jordan 1s, Air Jordan 6s, Off-White Air Jordan 1s, Dior Air Jordan 1s, and more.
According to Zsneakerheadz, Travis Scott and Jordan Brand are set to debut the new silhouette “Cut The Check” later this year. The design resembles a Dunk or Air Jordan 1 Low and features a reverse Swoosh. A thick forefoot strap reminiscent of the Air Yeezy 2 is also visible in the design. Stay tuned for more updates.
Travis Scott debuting new sneakers has been common since signing with Nike in 2017. From his coveted Air Jordan 1s and 4s to several Nike silhouettes like the Air Force 1, Air Trainer 1, and Air Max 1, he’s become one of the Swoosh’s go-to hit makers. Many speculated that the recent “Olive” colorway would be the last of his popular Air Jordan 1 low series, and now we have a peek at what may be next for him. While on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, Scott showed up in what appears to be a new Jordan Brand signature silhouette. While his pants cover the top half, we can see some Air Jordan inspiration and a backward Swoosh. In classic Cactus Jack style, the mysterious new sneaker is dressed mostly in brown with hits of white.
With his highly anticipated Utopia album on the horizon, the timing to debut a new signature sneaker is ripe. After so much success with retro colorways, an original design feels like a natural next step. Doing so successfully would be entering territory very few have ever even attempted in terms of a signature sneaker for a non-athlete. But if anyone has the track record, sneaker knowledge, and fan base to pull it off, it’s Travis Scott.
Stay tuned as we learn more about this sneaker.
