USC sophomore JuJu Watkins just signed a multiyear extension with Nike, which, according to ESPN, is one of the richest in women’s basketball. Watkins has had an NIL deal with Nike since her senior year in high school and is known for wearing Kobe Protros. During her freshman season, Watkins broke the 40-year-old NCAA Division I women’s basketball record with 920 points, leading USC to the Elite 8. Watkins is an LA native who starred at Sierra Canyon High School. She has developed friendships with the Bryant Family, and she and her teammates were gifted Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Reverse Grinches” early by Vanessa Bryant to start last season. Nike already has plans for signature sneakers for A’ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark, so the timeline for a potential Watkins sneaker is unclear. She is expected to play 3 more seasons at USC to take advantage of NIL.
