Nicole McLaughlin is bringing her utilitarian sense of design to Vans for the very first time.
The upcycling designer and artist took to Instagram Monday to reveal her take on the Slip-On. Under her stead, the iconic low-fuss sneaker has been transformed into a gardening shoe — or, if you take the branding at its word, a gardening tote. A series of pockets sit at the toe with cord reinforcements for added security. Hanging off the heel are tote-like straps that’ll make the sneaker easy to carry along with you.
Tote quality canvas makes up the upper with contrasting trim and straps. Two different colorways will be available: cream and canvas that’ll feel familiar to any tote-bearers, and a very workwear brown and black. The former boasts a white sole, while the latter opts for grey that repeats on the tongue lining and heel.
McLaughlin’s photos show mini tools tucked into the pockets, although we’ll have to wait and see if they’re actually included in the drop. A special hangtag on the toe reads, “n.m. Gardening Tote” — and we have to hope the matching bag also comes with it.
Release details have yet to be confirmed, so download the DROPS by SoleSavy app as we provide you with any and all updates.
