Nike Air Max 97 “Puerto Rico” is Coming Soon

By Luis Torres

____________

Nike is celebrating Puerto Rico with an upcoming Nike Air Max 97. With National Puerto Rican Day Parade on the horizon, the Swoosh is showing love to all the Boricuas out there.

The upcoming Nike Air Max 97 “Puerto Rico” features the flag on the tongue loop and the outsole of the pair as well. A combination of navy and varsity red dress up the metallic silver pair as “Silver Bullet” vibes heavily influence the upcoming colorway.

The Puerto Rico and Nike relationship isn’t new, of course. With Nike Air Force 1s releasing in the early 2000s and even the recently scrapped pair due to the backwards flag, Nike is looking to get things right with the upcoming pair. However, the flag is facing vertically rather than horizontally on the top of the tongue and the flag on the shoe’s outsole may not be the best idea. Regardless, the pair is still symbolically great for Puerto Ricans looking to showcase their heritage.

The Nike Air Max 97 “Puerto Rico” releases on June 5 for $175 on SNKRS and select retailers. As always, our release day strategy and monitors will have members ready for drop day.
