Nike and the NFL have announced a $5M grant initiative to high schools in the US that offer girls flag football. The grants will be given in increments of $100,000 per state with the first to receive the grant being Florida. Only Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, and New York currently have state-sanctioned flag football teams with the hope being that these grants will help other states overcome financial hurdles preventing them. In addition to the $5M grant, Nike is improving their online football training program, 11-Online. A film focused on women’s and girls’ journeys through football is also in the works.
