Original Reebok Answer 1 Reportedly Returning in 2022

In 1997, Reebok followed up the momentum of the Reebok Question with a response — better yet, an answer. The Reebok Answer 1, originally marketed as The Answer, debuted during Allen Iverson’s sophomore campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers as the guard continued to rise into stardom on and off the court.

The Reebok Answer 1 released in three colorways during the 1997-1998 season; navy with white & gold, black with white & gold, and white with red, black, & gold.

The Answer 1 was a technological overhaul as the shoe included Reebok’s DMX 10 system. Introduced in the DMX Run 10 sneaker, the DMX system was engineered with two sets of 5 air pods connected by a thin line.

Placed in the forefoot and the shoe’s heel, the DMX cushioning responded to movement. Air would flow back and forth from the front of the shoe to the back, depending on the impact.

In addition to the DMX 10, the Answer 1 also introduced us to the “I3” logo as well as a (then) futuristic video game-like advertisement that had everyone trying to replicate AI’s AND-1-esque spin-move-behind-the-back-off-hand-switch move.

Reebok brought back the Answer 1 in its white, red, gold, and black colorway in 2018. However, the signature DMX 10 system was replaced by DMX Foam, a modernized version that didn’t emulate the same air movement as the original tech. There’s no indication whether the 2022 version will feature the original DMX 10 cushioning system.

The Reebok Answer 1 OG in its white, red, and gold colorway is expected to release in 2022 on Reebok.com and select retailers. An official release date and price point have not been announced.
