Tom Sachs and Nike continue to deliver through their relationship. Though 2021 was relatively quiet (product-wise), Tom Sachs issued a wear-testing series for the Mars Yard 2.5.
“With this particular challenge, we are engaging people to really think about this shoe and bring different perspectives, both culturally and environmentally,” Tom Sachs said. “This is an opportunity to invite a larger audience to really indulge in our favorite part of the process — learning about things and making stuff. The process is the most valuable thing, and if the end result is a great pair of shoes, that’s fantastic. But I think it’s really important that the testing process celebrates the journey.”
While we’re still far from a release of the Tom Sachs x Nike Mars Yard 2.5 release, another Tom Sachs x NikeCraft creation is on the horizon this summer.
The latest Tom Sachs & Nike saga chapter taps into the NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe — an all-new silhouette that resembles the OG Nike Killshot, a tennis classic. The upcoming Tom Sachs x NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe is built with a sail mesh upper, grey suede overlays, and blue heel and tongue pull tabs. Finally, Tom Sachs branding is found behind the tongue while the NikeCraft logo appears on the insoles and outsole.
“It took a decade to make a shoe this simple, as simple as can be and no simpler. NikeCraft shuns innovation for its own sake, but embraces it as a necessity,” Sachs said.
The Tom Sachs x NikeCraft General Purpose Shoe releases on June 10 for $110 on SNKRS and select retailers, with sizes ranging from men’s sizes 3.5 -15 and women’s 5 – 16.5. As always, our sneaker monitors and release day strategy will have members ready for drop day.
