Why We Built COLLECT with Identity Verification Technology

What is Identity Verification? ✅

Identity verification is the process of confirming that a person is who they say they are. This is similar to the process that banks and other financial institutions are legally required to work with in order to prevent financial crimes and fraud. The verification process is simple– we’re asking users to submit a government-issued form of identification (driver’s license, passport, etc.), along with a selfie (taken within the app). Two simple steps and you’re on your way.

While awaiting verification, you’ll be unable to list items for sale, buy an item, or submit any offers, but don’t fret, verification is usually completed in a few minutes.

Why does SoleSavy use Identity Verification? ✅

In order to build the safest marketplace possible, we require all buyers and sellers to verify their identity before transacting on COLLECT.
More and more, online businesses are asking customers to verify their identities to ensure the safety of their customers. Verification on COLLECT guarantees that each person can only have one legitimate account with COLLECT, ensuring we can prevent bad actors from creating fake profiles, for example.

Our mission is to create a fair marketplace where buyers can collect the sneakers they want with confidence. We understand that buying, selling, and trading have always been a part of sneaker culture and we feel this is a safe and fair way for that to continue. Additionally, we will have policies and technology in place that prevent mass reselling to ensure transactions are done in good faith between members. A space where people can connect. A space where fees and profits don’t come before the love for sneakers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Identity Verification work in COLLECT?

SoleSavy utilizes Stripe to conduct identity verification. Stripe builds payment technology similar to Paypal, and has been widely adopted by the sneaker industry from Kith to Undefeated. Stripe is also used by major companies around the world like Amazon, Google, and Zoom.

Before you make a transaction on COLLECT, you will be prompted to “Verify your identity” through Stripe.

Stripe can verify your identity in one or multiple of the following ways:

  1. Verifying the authenticity of your government-issued ID document.
  2. Matching your ID with photos of your face.
  3. Validating your ID number against global databases.

Why do I need to provide my bank information?

Your bank information is required for us to process any sales you make and pay you accordingly. We do not use this information to remove any funds from your account. If you make a purchase, you can specify your choice of credit or debit card to use.

Is my data safe?

Yes. SoleSavy does not store any of the identity information you share in the verification process, and your data never hits SoleSavy servers. Identity information is used strictly to verify your identity.

Stripe uses many safeguards to protect data transfers, including transferring via TLS encrypted connections and SES-256 encryption at rest. Learn more about the safeguards Stripe has in place.

In addition, if you would like to delete your data, you can do so at any time by emailing privacy@stripe.com.
