After signing what was the richest Nike deal for an NFL player ever, Odell Beckham Jr. is calling out the Swoosh. NFL superstar Odell Beckham Jr is suing Nike under the claims that the company has been suppressing sneaker sales that would have led to a lucrative contract extension. In a lawsuit obtained by TMZ Sports, Daniel Davillier, Beckham’s lawyer claimed that adidas offered the star a huge contract following the expiration of Beckham’s Nike deal in 2017 but Nike exercised their right to match that adidas deal.
However, Davillier claims that the deal was not the exact same as the previous deal. In the suit, Beckham Jr. claims that the structure of the deal made it virtually impossible to trigger certain criteria in the deal. Beckham Jr. alleges that the deal began to sour in March of this year when the company withheld 2 million from his 2.6 million check claiming that the athlete had committed footwear and glove violations when he altered them towards the end of the season which OBJ vehemently denies.
He insists that he didn’t commit any violations but instead Nike refused to supply him with gear that matched the colors of his new team. Discussing his gloves, the 30-year-old said that he always customizes his gloves to match his brand and that the Swoosh had never complained about it at any other point. Beckham alleges that Nike used these fake penalties in order to force him into a less fruitful deal. Now he’s suing them for $20 million dollars.
