Hemp is beginning to become a more common sight on sneakers, and as one of the most environmentally friendly fabrics around, what better time to incorporate it than Earth Day?
Adidas is preparing to celebrate the holiday by outfitting both the Stan Smith and Superstar in the natural fiber. The two icons will take on hemp in its natural, un-dyed form. Crocheted accenting brings small splashes of color, as well as deepening the connection to the counterculture that has long clad itself in hemp.
The Stan Smith is the more raw of the Earth Day duo, as the Three Stripes all but disappear and can only be made out in a series of faint dots incorporated into the upper’s knit. A multi-color, crocheted mustache provides one of the lone deviations along with a special “Hemp” hang tag appearing just below.
A tad more variation comes on the Superstar, as different shades of brown are used for the sockliner and suede mustache. The crochet pattern from the Stan Smith moves over here to the inset lateral striping, while the medial’s matches the mustache. The same “Hemp” hang tag rears its head again, and both “Earth Day” sneakers utilize cork insoles to help reach a composition of at least 30 percent natural and renewable materials.
Release details have yet to be confirmed but should come soon considering Earth Day is April 22. Download the DROPS by SoleSavy app as we provide you with all the updates.
