Aimé Leon Dore and New Balance are revisiting their most fruitful silhouette. The 550 trades leather for shaggy suede under the stead of ALD founder Teddy Santis. He’s concocted two earthy takes on the fuzzy 550, giving a more lifestyle feel to the ’80s basketball sneaker.
Available in either “Brown” or a lighter “Taupe,” the 550’s upper is now rendered almost entirely in suede, including the “N” logo. Tonal mesh insets at the toe cap and heel maintaain the clean look, shile the tongue, sockliner, and laces come in white. A yellowed, sort-of aged midsole sits down bellow and above and off-white outsole. On the tongue, you’ll find ALD’s signature floral motif.
A release date hasn’t been set yet for the new 550 duo, but ALD will drop the pairs as part of its spring/summer 2023 collection. Download the DROPS by SoleSavy app to keep abreast of any and all updates.
