(UPDATE – September 14, 2020): The Beyonce x adidas Superstar Platform has been confirmed for a September 18th release date. The shoe will retail for $200 USD.
The adidas Superstar has gotten a lot of love in 2020 for the legacy silhouette’s 50th anniversary, releasing in a variety of special edition collaborations throughout the year. The latest to join in on the celebrations is none other than Beyonce as part of her ongoing “Ivy Park” collaboration with adidas.
Currently slated for a September 2020 release, the Beyonce x adidas Ivy Park Superstar is one of the year’s most creative reinventions of the familiar lowtop. By leaving the upper relatively intact and instead focussing attention to the midsole, Beyonce has come up with a triple-stacked sneaker that brings to mind sacai’s recent work with Nike. The top portion of this exaggerated midsole is relatively normal with a rubber exterior wrapping around the perimeter of the shoe, but its the middle portion that gets all the spotlight with its protruding wing-tipped shape extending a few centimeters past the toebox. This “second” midsole also sports an embossed tread around the heel to add some extra frail when viewed from behind. Underneath is a reflection of the first midsole that literally and figuratively helps balance out the shoe. The shoe’s upper is done in a simple white leather with black Three Stripes branding on the sides and a black heel tab. The tongue is stamped with tonal branding resulting in a minimalist look. The interior sock liner is done in a fine leather for a more luxurious, comfortable feel. A debossed “Superstar” logo appears on the lateral sides of the shoe.
