Can the ‘Air Max Craze’ be the next Sneaker Craze?

The latest sneaker pulled from the Nike vault is slated to return tomorrow.

Originally released in 2001, the Air Max Craze was designed as a cross-training sneaker. Coming from Nike’s Alpha Projects Line, the sneaker took the aesthetics and trends of the new century and introduced them onto a Nike trainer.

Alpha Projects was no stranger to innovation. The predecessor to more well-known subdivisions within the swoosh-like NikeLab and ISPA- Nike’s Alpha Project division existed to find a balance between current performance and futuristic aesthetic. The line was short-lived, but its impact is undeniable. Alpha Projects developed iconic sneakers like the Air Presto and the Zoom Huarache 2k4. The imprint left a standard on how to approach the futuristic style Nike has always been keen on.

The Air Max Craze is the latest Alpha Projects sneaker to make a return. The timing for this return could not be more perfect.

Arriving off the success of the Air SNDR, the Air Max Craze features a similar lacing system offering tighter support along the front of the sneaker. The SNDRS’ comeback was welcome with open arms. So much so, the sneaker was used by Kid’s of Immigrants on what would end up being one of the most beloved sneaker releases of 2024. The success of the SNDRS is a perfect launching point for the Craze. It showed Nike that their consumers are interested in futuristic runners, and that the flashiness associated with these sneakers are welcomed by the most stylish of sneakerheads.

The almost sneaker-mule clog aesthetic of the Air Craze is a look that can benefit the sneaker, as well. Finding itself among the most beloved sneaker styles this year, the sneaker-mule clog allows for not only comfort, but the convenience of simply sliding a sneaker on and going about your day.

The trend has been bubbling beneath niche fashion spaces for a few years now- but it is poised to reach the mainstream fashion space in 2025. Salomon tapped MM6 to create a sneaker clog of their beloved XT-4, New Balance turned the 2002r into a mule, and Nike themselves even brought back the ACG Rufus. The Air Max Craze, though, offers a heel strap- and an upper design  that separates it from all of the aforementioned sneakers.

If Nike were to able bring back this niche runner, the time could not have been better executed. The trend cycles could not have been more welcoming for a sneaker like the Air Max Craze more than it currently appears to be. With more colorways, and potential collabs, on the way- the opportunity for the Air Max Craze to capture the highly competitive head space of sneakerheads is now.

The Nike Air Max Craze returns tomorrow in two colorways- Black and Bright Citrus and Laser Orange via SNKRS. The sneaker will release in Women’s sizing- with more colorways expected throughout 2025.

Sole Savy is unreal! With a busy schedule it’s hard to keep up on shoes, and the group keeps me up to date on releases, tips on how to manually cop, and a marketplace with killer deals from fellow like minded collectors. It’s changed the sneaker game for me!

@SoleSavy is the truth. They've helped me cop kicks I never would've imagined getting at retail. Members always willing to assist on drops too. And most of all, a REAL community of REAL sneakerheads. These guys should be the gold standard for sneaker communities! #LifetimeMember

My membership paid for itself three fold by being solely responsible for my union 4’s, mesh sacai waffles, sacai blazers, court purple aj1s, glow in the dark yeezy 350s, travis scott lows (which I traded to get desert ore ow’s), air max 1 londons, bc3’s for way under retail etc.

Can't say enough about SS. The stellar help with copping shoes is a given but it's the community that makes it extra special. Hands down one of the best decisions I made as a wannabe sneakerhead.

The community of sneakerheads and resources available to help manually cop are great and really will help you get more Ws. The Zoom calls for hyped drops like Union Jordan 4 only adds to the camaraderie while providing real time instruction
