The return of the New Balance 550 has been fruitful for the Boston-based brand. The hardwood classic, then known as the P550, was the perfect low-top. More than three decades after the OG P550, the silhouette continues to hone in on its perfection.
As the silhouette returned thanks to Aimé Leon Dore’s Teddy Santis, the 550 fervor has been non-stop. If anything, it’s exponentially grown. New Balance has more planned for the 550 as images of another collaboration have surfaced.
COMME des GARÇONS HOMME, a subsidiary of Rei Kawakubo prestiougs COMME des GARÇONS umbrella, is taking on the low-top. The upcoming COMME des GARÇONS HOMME x New Balance 550 stays true to both brands with a minimalist approach as an all-black version with white details and accents and an all-white pair with black details and accents will headline the upcoming collab.
Both COMME des GARÇONS HOMME x New Balance 550 colorways are built with 100% cowhide leather with “CdGH new balance” branding on the heels with CdG HOMME branded insoles. White midsoles and black outsoles are a constant for both pairs.
A release date for the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME x New Balance 550 collection has not been announced. However, we expect the colorways to release at Dover Street Market in the fall. A price point has not been announced, and a wider release is not anticipated. As always, our sneaker monitors and release day strategy will have members ready for drop day.
