New Balance took the sneaker world by storm when they reintroduced the 1906 model in 2022. The pair has since become one of the most popular casual mesh runners on the market; with both in-line and collaborative iterations flying off shelves.
The New Balance 1906 was originally released in 2009 as part of the brand’s 1000 series of running shoes. The name is taken from the year that New Balance was founded.
The shoe returned in 2022 following the rise in popularity of mesh runners, however, it returned as a fusion – with the midsole/outsole being replaced with an 860V2 – and was given the name 1906R (this is also what the brand did with their 2002 model).
As the shoe became more popular, New Balance continued to release new iterations of the shoe. The1906U, 1906F, 1906D, and 1906A – with each of these letters representing a different build. Take a look below for a full breakdown of what each of these letters actually stands for.
