For the uninitiated, Salehe Bembury is the young footwear designer who’s resume includes working on earlier Yeezy Season apparel, but these days, he’s Versace’s Vice President of Sneakers and Men’s Footwear. A well-deserved title, the prestigious footwear designer is getting first namesake collaboration with New Balance in the form of special edition New Balance 2002.
Teased for weeks on Bembury’s social media, the New Balance 2002 “Peace Be The Journey” sees the young designer take inspiration from deserts, badlands, and generally arid ground for the red and orange hued earth tones used throughout the sneaker and its packaging. Originally released in 2010, the NB 2002 model is rarely he choice of canvas for collaborations despite its stylish silhouette and plush, proprietary N-ERGY midsole. The images in question are in fact point of view images of the shoes taken by the ever-stylish musician John Mayer. In these photos we can see bright yellow mesh used for the toebox with some mauve suede panelling wedged between it and the lacestays. The rest of the visible upper is done in dyed suede in the same shade of dusty orange as the shoe’s packaging. The midsole all white spare for the middle portion that sees further mauve tooling implemented.
