Sneaker designer Frank Cooke and Saucony are joining forces for a bold and premium take on the Saucony Jazz 81 exclusive to APB locations in Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston. on 12.9 and online at apbstore.com.
As a part of Saucony’s “Concrete Flower” initiative to expand collaboration and design opportunities, Cooke took inspiration from his childhood, choosing the Jazz 81 for its affordable price point. The personal details are immediately noticeable, with a handwritten note etched on the insole attributed to “7th Grade Cooker” asking his parents for the shoe.
The silhouette stays true to its 80s origins in its construction with high-grade materials and details throughout. The vibrant hits of violet and pink are a love letter to the 1980s and are broken up by a bit of black and metallic details on the Saucony brand logo on the sides. Alongside the sneaker is an apparel collection that includes tees and hoodies that feature various pronunciations of the word Saucony in a nod to the company’s mysterious brand name in the days before widespread internet use. The sneaker is limited to 750 pairs.
On the importance and significance of this project, designer Frank Cooke shared: “This project means so much because Saucony has always provided a great product that remains relevant. For me, personal style does not always have to be displayed through high end fashion or footwear. You should always make what you wear come to life, never let it make you.”
