Star player of the Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Antetokounmpo will have his second collaborative Nike sneaker debut on July 25th. Dubbed the Nike Zoom Freak 2, the lowcut basketball sneaker will retail for $130 USD and features some familiar tooling from its predecessor while implementing some stylish reinventions of the OG.
Performance-wise, the Zoom Freak 2 is a great piece of footwear ingenuity, designed with the star’s Eurostep technique and physical proportions specifically in mind. Underneath the soft, foam midsole, a single Zoom air unit is applied under the forefoot to prioritize speed on the court. A molded piece of “Zoom Air” branded TPU is wedged between the midsole and upper in order to provide further structure and maintain your foot’s position in the shoe. The outsole is produced in a concave fashion and cups the midsole just right, thus reducing the amount of necessary material needed for the high-contact piece of footwear. Aesthetics wise the Zoom Freak 2 eschews the reverse Swoosh of the Zoom Freak OG and replaces it with an oversized, camo patterned Swoosh on the lateral sides. Antetokounmpo’s parent’s names “Charles” and “Veronica” are embossed on the outsole while the forefoot and heel portions of the outsole feature abstract patterning akin to the Swoosh throughout. Finally, Antetokounmpo’s signature “GA” initials emblem applied to the lateral side of the heel.
The debut “Naijah” green colorway of the Nike Zoom Freak 2 will release July 25th followed by a black/white version on August 7th, a military green “Bamo” colorway September 18th, and the “White Cement” colorway on October 1st.
