Kanye West has just signed a ten-year partnership with American retailer, GAP. Featured in countless malls and standalone stores throughout North America alone, the Gap has struggled in recent years and saw a further financial decline due to the Coronavirus pandemic, having closed hundreds of stores in the US in recent months. Today, the two have revealed that starting in the first half of 2021, “Yeezy Gap” – an affordable off-shoot of Kanye’s high-end YEEZY brand both designed and likely produced in Cody, Wyoming – will be stocked in stores worldwide.
West has long expressed a desire to work with a company with the kind of household name and infrastructure as the Gap to distribute his clothing to the masses. Yeezy Gap will be led by West’s creative direction while Nigerian-British designer Mowalola Ogunlesi has been hired as Design Director. The partnership hopes to bring in $1Billion in sales annually at the five-year mark. YEEZY brand alone has recently evaluated at $3B while the adidas Yeezy shoe line made over $1.3 billion in sales. Stock in The Gap raised by over 40% today following the news.
