The New Balance 2002R took over 2021. From collaborations with Salehe Bembury to even general release iterations, the retro-infused runner was a hit in every facet for the Boston-based brand. But if there’s one 2002R that stands out to everyone, it’s the “Refined Future” aka “Protection Pack” that dominated the latter half of 2021.
2022 is picking up where things left off as two new colorways in the same reconstructed, layered design have surfaced as part of the all-new “Protection Pack” series. The upcoming New Balance 2002R “Protection Pack” includes New Balance’s signature “Steel Blue” color combination and also includes a vibrant orange with yellow details and a “Dark Blue” look, reminiscent of past NB drops. Akin to its predecessor, the upcoming “Protection Pack” is built with New Balance’s premium mesh and suede, reflective details, and a two-toned midsole.
A release date for the New Balance 2002R “Protection Pack” has not been announced. However, German-based boutique AFEW is releasing the pairs on April 1. A wider release on NewBalance.com and select retailers is expected in the upcoming months. As always, our sneaker monitors and release day strategy will have members ready for drop day.
