New Balance Gives the 550 a Hemp Treatment

While Nike and Stüssy have found success with hemp sneakers, New Balance is saying, let me get some of that, too.

The ubiquitous 550 silhouette is getting the natural fiber treatment with a tonal makeup. Hemp makes up the vast majority of the upper, save for the inset “N” logo and a lone panel beneath the collar appearing in matching suede. A similar off-white color is used for the sole, while black outlines the “N” and is used for the rest of the sneaker’s branding. Although we’ll call it “Hemp,” the colorway’s official name is “Sea Salt.”

This airy New Balance 550 will be perfect for summer, and fittingly, Naked has confirmed the sneaker for a June 1 release at $153. Look out for New Balance to drop the shoe along with select other retailers.
