The New Balance 990 series has been a staple for the Boston-based brand since its launch in 1982. Its most current version, the 990v5, has made waves for New Balance purists and sneakerheads alike after its 2019 release.
As the brand prepares to unveil the newest chapter, the New Balance 990v6, the v5 gets a sustainable makeover. The New Balance 990v5 trades in its traditional pig suede overlays for a premium vegan leather alternative. The shoe’s signature mesh panels, TPU support, and signature ENCAP technology remain. The New Balance Vegan Friendly MADE 990v5 stays true to NB heritage with its all-grey look, differing slightly from the non-vegan iteration. In addition, the heel of the shoe features a “V” with a green outline to further emphasize its vegan state.
The New Balance Vegan Friendly MADE 990v5 is available now for $185 on NewBalance.com and will become available at select retailers in the upcoming weeks. As always, our sneaker monitors and release day strategy will have members ready for drop day.
