Following last week’s news that Supreme had been sold to eyewear company EssilorLuxottica (EL) from VF Corporation, the WSJ reported that Meta was interested in buying up to a 5% stake in the streetwear giant. This news was just as shocking as Supreme being sold for 1.5 billion four years after it was acquired for 2.1 billion, but there is an existing connection between Meta and Supreme’s new owners. EL also owns Ray-Ban and has partnered with Meta to release multiple models of smart sunglasses. Even with Supreme’s value down since 2020, it’s no secret that brands and corporations see the brand as a valuable partner to attract younger audiences. Mark Zuckerberg took to Threads to comment on the report with a simple sunglasses smiley face Emoji, hinting at a potential Supreme x Meta sunglasses project in the future.
