In 1987, Nike unveiled the Air Max 1 to the world. Three and a half decades after its debut, the Air Max 1 is as important and relevant as back then.
Though every March 26 (Air Max Day) is a celebration on the unofficial-official sneakerhead calendar, the 35th anniversary has a certain aura to it.
In addition to the slate of releases, a new colorway of the Air Max 1 will appear in late March. Inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics, the Nike Air Max 1 PRM “Wabi-Sabi” is coming soon. In Japanese tradition, wabi-sabi is centralized in the idea and acceptance of imperfection. Thus, the shoe sports cracked graphics on the midsole, exposed stitching, and other (intentionally) loosely designed details. The shoe is constructed with a canvas base and adorned in earthy tones with suede overlays. Additionally, a gum bottom brings it all together. And it’s not an Air Max Day release without the 3.26 stamped on. The famed date lands on the tongue tags while the Roman numeral XXXV, commemorating the 35th anniversary, is found on the heel and insoles.
The Nike Air Max 1 PRM “Wabi-Sabi” releases on SNKRS and select retailers on Air Max Day (March 26), exclusively in Asia Pacific and Latin American regions.
