Soon, we can all enjoy a piece of the joy Dinho brought to the game of football.
Nike has taken the world by storm with the reemergence of the Total 90 Line. As the fashion world has leaned towards footy styles, be it jerseys or low-profile sneakers, the Swoosh has been able to revive the line successfully. From the street-ready sneaker to the practice day-ready jersey, Nike has made a strong effort to approach that Y2k era nostalgia and translate it into a successful comeback.
Now, Nike is deepening that connection even further- reissuing the jersey of the biggest face in the sport of soccer in the early 2000s.
For kids growing up at the turn of the decade, the football world had many superstars to look up. None possessed the flair, the spark, and the joy that came with playing football the way Ronaldinho did, though.
He was a key piece to Brazil winning the 2002 World Cup- assisting and scoring in the iconic Quarter Finals match up against England. It was his move to Barcelona in 2003 that would mark his career, though. In his time in Spain, Ronaldinho lit up the league, and even got a standing ovation by rival Real Madrid fans after putting up a masterclass performance against Los Blancos. Later that season, Ronaldinho would aide Barcelona in winning their first Champions League in 14 years- as well as securing the Double after winning La Liga that season, as well.
For all intensive purposes, Ronaldinho was a superstar. A face of the sport of Football. A skilled athlete hard to emulate, though that never stopped kids from trying.
As Nike continues to push the Total 90 resurgence forward, the brand is reissuing several international kits that used the Total 90 template in the early 2000s. Though more superstars of the game are poised to get their jerseys reissued- the project could not kick off with anyone else but Ronaldinho Gaúcho.
Nike’s reissue of the 2004 Ronaldinho kit releases on Friday, July 25th at 10 AM EST via Nike and the SNKRS App.
