Following the announcement of the debut “Naija” Green colorway of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Nike Air Zoom Freak 2, Nike has revealed plans for a larger “Naija” capsule this year inspired by the Nigerian football team’s uniforms. The Nike designed uniforms for Nigeria’s team uniforms during the 2018 world cup were huge sportswear hits worldwide and that success seems destined to repeat with Nike’s 2020-2021 football collection. To coincide with the fan-favorite design Nike has revealed a “Naija” Air Max 95 and matching Air Presto.
The AM95 places different portions of the Nigerian uniform’s intricate patterning on each panel of the upper’s four woven, wave-shaped segments. Sitting atop the black and green toned patterning is some light green mesh by the patterned lacestays. A black tongue, laces, midsole, and suede toebox quietly complement the loud upper and bring your eyes’ focus to the detailed pattern work. The Prestos use a portion of this design on the mesh upper and another for the tongue and ankle and use semi-transparent green plastic for the caging and dark green on laces. Similar to the AM95s these Prestos have a black midsole but feature an extra touch of white on the outsole and a bright green Swoosh across the lateral side as a final nod to the iconic jerseys. Release dates have not been confirmed for either pair but are expected to release in the coming weeks.
