Like the deep roots of an Oak tree, Sneaker Politics and ASICS are rekindling their connection in a new way.
First introduced last year, the ASICS GEL-K1011 combines the GEL-KAYANO 5, 6, 10, with the GEL-CUMULUS 17, creating a sneaker ready to be your favorite sneaker-head’s daily driver. Like the perfect bowl of gumbo, the K1011 tastefully combines the models mentioned above to create something memorable that soothes the sole.
Terrible puns aside, the state of Louisiana, and the lively and vibrant soul that make it the beloved state it is, are celebrated in a new way by Sneaker Politics.
Sneaker Politics’ latest project with ASICS draws from one of Louisiana’s most ancient trees- the live oaks. These beloved trees are celebrated for their ability to withstand hurricanes, and symbolize protection and strength across the state. The GEL-K1011 ‘Live Oak’ blends rugged suede and open-weave mesh into an earth-driven palette with hits of muted purple and golden yellow, complete with ASICS’ signature comfort and design.
In a bloated world of sneakers, Sneaker Politics and ASICS have found a way to use something as ever-present as an Oak tree to tell a beautiful story. A story of Louisiana’s resilience, be it how it rebuilt from the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina. Louisiana is a strong state. The melting pot that always gives is celebrated through their beautiful foliage- and their way to always overcome adversity.
The hues of purple and yellow drastically contrast the muted olives and taupes. But they perfectly exemplify Lafayette and the state of Louisiana, where Sneaker Politics opened their first store. They are a nod to the state’s culture- be it sports, be it food, or be it the way they changed music forever.
The GEL-K1011 has gained some impressive cosigns since being introduced last year. The hybrid model has taken some of ASICS’ most beloved details and created a canvas ripe for some of the greatest sneaker stories- the ‘Live Oak’ being no exception.
The ‘Live Oak’ GEL-K1011 releases exclusively via Sneaker Politics on October 18th for $170. You can enter the raffle, powered by EQL, via Sneaker Politics here.
