Everyone’s favorite app is introducing a new way to purchase coveted sneakers.
Today, Nike has announced a new launch method for special releases. The feature, named ‘SNKRS Code’, will be reserved for “special launches that deserve a little mystery, chase, and an ultimate reward.” Nike reiterates that this new launch method will not replace the app’s more frequent LEO release method.
“You won’t see a SNKRS Code on every product, but when it shows up on a drop, you’ll know it’s something worth paying attention to,” explains the SNKRS app.
SNKRS Code promises an experience optimizing the thrill of the hunt that gets so many sneakerheads going. “SNKRS Code is an experience that unlocks access to exclusive products through the discovery of a secret password or code. These passwords could take the form of trivia answers, special phrases, or other creative formats, and can be found on Nike platforms, partner channels, or maybe hidden on the pair you’re looking for next.”
The app breaks down how the SNKRS Code launches will work. “To enter a SNKRS Code launch, you’ll need to find the password, which might mean using a hint in a SNKRS thread, knowing lore and trivia, spotting it at a local event, or caching a clue on a social post. Each SNKRS Code experience is unequliy designed to reflect the story it represents, so clues may surface in unexpected places.”
As of now, we do not know which launch will be the first SNKRS launch to release via SNKRS Code, but with Nike still having several big releases in Decemeber, and the timing of the launch of this new feature, it is hard to believe it will not be soon.
