When it comes to sneaker traditions, there’s nothing as special as Oregon Health & Science University’s Doernbecher Freestyle.
OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital has collaborated with Nike since 2004, creating life-changing memories and unforgettable sneakers. Since 2004, Doernbecher Freestyle has collaborated with more than 100 patient-designers and hundreds of Nike employee volunteers to make each patient’s design dreams come to life.
Every collection has been auctioned and sold, with the Swoosh donating 100% of the retail profits to help raise more than $30 million for the children’s hospital. The one–of–a–kind collaboration between OHSU Doernbecher and Nike has helped to cover the cost of care for families in need, expand pioneering research that benefits kids worldwide, and support specialized care unavailable anywhere else in the region.
The Doernbecher Freestyle is back following a brief hiatus due to the COVID–19. On February 25, 2022, seven inspirational and highly creative young patients from OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital will virtually reveal their personally designed Nike sneaker, apparel, and equipment collections.
The upcoming Freestyle collection continues the tradition of representing the life experiences, medical journeys, and relationships of the young patients who created them through unique details, hidden messages, and captivating colors. At the center of the collection is an opportunity for the designers to give back to the hospital that helped save their lives.
Seven young designers will share what it means to live life on your own terms. Be sure to save the date and join us virtually for Freestyle XVII on February 25, 2022.
