The final chapter of the Year of the Mamba collection is here.
To celebrate the Year of the Snake- Nike Basketball announced a special capsule honor the legacy of Kobe Bryant. Perfectly dubbing it The Year of the Mamba collection, the capsule began rolling out earlier this month. It is Nike Basketball’s latest effort to celebrated the legacy of The Black Mamba.
This week, the final shoe from the collection will release: the Kobe VI Protro in the Sail colorway.
The Kobe VI is revered so much by fans because of the iconic colorways and the snake skin upper. The Sail colorway, though spins that on its head.
Dressed in a white upper, the only semblance of color on the sneaker are the sail hits and the black Swoosh and Mamba logo on the tongue. The sneaker also features a modified upper. The iconic snake pattern makes a quick cameo before morphing into a star design that dresses most of the upper.
The Kobe VI Sail honors Kobe Bryant’s legacy and the competitive edge he brought to every game. The stars dressing the upper are a reminder of Bryant’s impact on the game of basketball. They serve as a reference point to the iconic NBA All Star Game performances of Bryant’s career.
Kobe Bryant won the NBA All Star Game MVP award four times- winning in 2002, 2007, 2009, and 2011. Which shares the record with Bob Pettit for most ASG MVP awards. After his tragic passing, the NBA announced that it would continue to honor Bryant’s legacy by permanently renaming the weekend’s top honor the NBA All-Star Game Kobe Bryant MVP Award.
Bryant’s impact on the game of basketball continues to be felt in today’s game. As the 2025 NBA All Star Weekend approaches, there was no better time to put the bow on the Year of the Mamba collection. There was no better sneaker to wrap a memorable collection than the Kobe VI.
The Kobe VI Protro in the Sail colorway releases on Feburary 13th via SNKRS and other Nike retailers.
