I’m stoked to announce we are launching another sneaker project with Garrixon next Monday. This is definitely an experiment and a learning opportunity but the plan is to bring the communities together in a series of workshops where we will ideate a sneaker design from scratch and build it along with Rich Franklin of Garrixon to help it make sense and become reality.
Preview Session is open to all members and will be August 10th at 7PM EST. Sorry to the west cost folks but this is the latest we could start because Garrixon is in Philadelphia.
Preview Session goals: come to next weeks session with a mood board, inspiration and ideas that you want to share. Lets use that to kick things off and see what type of outsole we should use for the project.
Outsole selection: We will be using a Vibram sole for this project to keep costs down. There’s tons to select from but we’ll narrow it down to less than a dozen for the preview session so we can all focus our attention down to what we think may be one or two of the best options for our sneaker. I’ve included a photo of 4 soles I personally like from the Vibram catalogue.
Cost goals: I would like to see this sneaker be no more than $200 USD.
Session 1: After the preview session, participation will be $50 for the remainder of the project with the money going towards the final cost of the shoe. We want to ensure those participating are in it for the completion of the project. The goal here is to take that inspiration (toe box, side panel, tongue etc) and sketch out a sneaker that could make sense live.
Could this fail? Yup lol but lets try and have some fun. Let’s see what we can learn and see if it inspires something cool designed by the collective community. If it doesn’t work out we’ll just issue refunds and scrap it but it will be fun to try!
P.S. This is a separate project from the custom SoleSavy sneaker being designed by two former Nike employees. We will share more info on that project in the next 30-60 days but for now hang tight.
P.P.S. Pending these Nike lawsuits don’t go through, I think we can do a custom SoleSavy Dunk either late this year or early next based on what I’m seeing in forecasts for the coming seasons of Dunk Delivery. I think getting enough pairs for around $100 will be possible but TBD. I don’t feel like dealing with lawyers lol
