Jordan Brand continues to celebrate the Air Jordan 5 as the iconic silhouette celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2020.
The original Air Jordan 5 was released in 1990 and inspired by two unlikely muses: the basketball great and WWII fighter planes. During the 1989-’90 season, Michael Jordan set a points-per-game record and scored an unbelievable 69 points in an overtime against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Jordan’s “dog-like fight that separated him from any other player on the planet. [Designer] Tinker Hatfield took inspiration from Jordan’s biting style, likening it to an American WWII fighter plane, he designed the Air Jordan V with shark-tooth shapes on the midsole,” according to jordan.com.
While the original colorways of the AJ5 are embedded throughout sneaker and pop culture, the iterations that followed lived up to the Nike Jordan’s DNA while infusing it with some modern cachet. The historic lineup of AJ5s includes player exclusive sneakers, original, unreleased (just to tease all the sneakerheads) and retro styles.
The sneaker brand recently announced its 2021 Holiday line-up, and one of the standout Nike drops from the upcoming selection was the icy women’s exclusive Air Jordan 5 Bluebird colorway. Inspired by the perfect day to hit the slopes, the Bluebird colorway is built with various shades of blue supported by the upper’s premium nubuck upper, fabric sleeve, icy outsole and satin liner. A silvery grey contrast on top of tongue is the perfect accent. These sneakers have a soft, cool aesthetic to complement their iconic silhouette.
