Peter Moore, the man behind the Air Jordan 1, the Nike Dunk, and adidas’ Equipment (EQT) line, has passed away, according to several posts from Nike employees.
Moore was born in February 1944 & was a graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute, a leading professional art school in Los Angeles. Moore became Nike, Inc.’s first-ever global creative director in 1983. He was responsible for the design of the Terminator, the Dunk, and the Air Jordan 1 as well as the Air Jordan line.
Moore left Nike in 1987 and started Sports Incorporated with former Nike employee Rob Strasser, who co-founded the Air Jordan line with Moore. Both Strasser and More joined adidas shortly after. Moore would help launch its Equipment line (EQT) and adidas America. Additionally, Moore would become global creative director for the Three Stripes and CEO later on.
After decades in sneakers, Moore continued to consult for adidas along with other creative initiatives.
Our condolences go to the Moore family.
