Dan Wieden, co-founder of the legendary Wieden + Kennedy ad agency, has passed away at age 77. Wieden created campaigns for some of the biggest brands in history including Mcdonald’s, Corona, and Samsung but arguably one of his biggest achievements is creating the iconic “Just Do It” slogan for Nike.
Along with his partner David Kennedy, Dan Wieden started Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Oregon, and thanks to their legendary work with the Swoosh expanded rapidly. W+K now has offices from Portland to Tokyo and their work can be seen as recently as the new McDonald’s and Cactus Plant Flea Market campaign.
In a touching statement, W+K said, “We are heartbroken. But even more so, we are overcome with gratitude and love. Thank you Dan, for throwing the doors wide open for people to live up to their full potential. Thank you for your steadfastness, courage, faith and abiding love. Thank you for making this beautiful creative life possible. We will miss you so much.”
